Near the Bitterroot National Forest you’ll find Triple Creek Ranch, an award-winning, Relais & Chateaux luxury ranch resort & luxe cabins for adults. A remote hotel in the mountains may seem like an unlikely place for the world’s best hotel, but the location is exactly what makes this resort so undeniably charming. Business Insider recently compiled a fresh, new updated list of the “30 best hotels in the world” and Triple Creek Ranch on the West Fork of the Bitterroot River topped the list.
Located in Darby, Montana, Triple Creek Ranch is owned by former Intel CEO Craig Barrett and his wife Barbara, the former U.S. ambassador to Finland. So what is it that makes Triple Creek Ranch so special? For starters, the 700-acre resort is renowned for its excellent customer service and stunning luxury cabins. The plethora of all-inclusive package of activities is the icing on the cake. What makes Triple Creek Ranch unique and what sets it apart, is the fact that children under 16 are not allowed. This means peace, quiet, and relaxation, making it the ideal getaway for couples looking to unwind.
Marketing and sales director of Triple Creek Ranch, Jennifer O’Donohue shares, “We’ve been in the top 20 of the world’s best hotels over the years, and we’re a tiny little 24-cabin ranch in the middle of Montana,” she said. “I used to work at a real ‘dude ranch’ you know: more rustic, family-oriented and everybody came in on Sunday and left on Saturday. This is a completely different kind of experience. This is a luxury guest ranch experience.”
She adds, “Our receiving that recognition really kind of shined a spotlight on the guest experience here as a vacation option. A lot of people may not have been aware of that. ‘Yeah, riding a horse around Montana sounds awesome, but I don’t want to eat franks and beans and I want to sleep in a comfy bed.’ So I think our receiving that designation really kind of made people more aware of the kind of experience they can have here.”
You might be wondering how much a stay at the world’s best hotel is going to cost you… Rates start at $950 per couple, per night, and include a private cabin, all meals, drinks, and activities. Three-bedroom cabins go for $2,650 per couple. The price also includes all breakfasts, packed lunches, gourmet dinners, house wines, spirits and snacks. Cabins feature a complimentary wet bar (yay) and a private or shared hot tub (double yay).
Hang out by the heated pool with a bonfire pit or simply take in the beautiful surroundings. One thing’s for sure, you must take advantage of all the incredible activities. Now these activities may be considered ordinary to Montana locals, but travelers looking for that “Western” experience are in for a treat. All-inclusive activities included in the price are: fly-casting lessons, trail rides, archery, fishing in stocked ponds, nature safaris, snowshoeing, downhill skiing at Lost Trail Powder Mountain, nordic skiing, sapphire panning and more.
As for dining options on the premises, the dinner menu changes every night. Guests can book a custom seven-course meal at the chef’s table or can tour the kitchen if they’d like. There’s also a wine cellar and a rooftop bar in the main lodge where guests can sit back and sip on tasty libations next to the fire. If you’re lucky enough, the Barretts’ will give you a tour of their art collection at their private home over cocktails, we’ve heard they do this occasionally.
