Sophia Loren is living proof that 80 is the new 30. To celebrate her 81st birthday, the Italian screen goddess launched her very own lipstick with none other than Dolce & Gabbana.
The lippie—Dolce&Gabbana Sophia Loren Signature N° 1 Lipstick—launched nationwide on Monday, just one day after Loren turned 81. It is, of course, her signature color.
The designers collaborated with the Italian beauty icon to create “her” shade of lipstick, specifically designed to enhance and compliment the deep pigmentation of Sophia’s lips – to create her very own signature red. Leaving her indelible mark, Sophia’s signature is inscribed on the gold lipstick case. Additionally, for the first time in history, the Italian icon stars in a Dolce&Gabbana advertising campaign, makeup by Tom Pecheux.
“Sophia Loren No. 1 is our way of saying, ‘Thank you, Sophia!’ Thank you for her beauty, thank you for being a world favorite, thank you for being an icon of the big screen and of Italian beauty. She has been a constant source of inspiration for us and today we celebrate her with the gift of her very own lipstick,” the designers, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, said in a release announcing the shade, which is meant to embody “Italy, beauty, the history of cinema, and Dolce&Gabbana.”
Loren is no stranger to beauty, though she tries—surprisingly given how glamorous she is—to abide by a relatively low-key beauty routine. While promoting her book “Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow” last year she told us, “In life, if you want to look good, you have to be a little careful in everything that you do. I like to walk outside in parks in the morning, and I’m careful about what I eat. You can’t have pasta every day thinking you’re going to stay beautiful.”
