There is nothing like New York during a holiday. While the masses head to the beach you get to experience New York like royalty—without mobs of people littering the best restaurants, and bars. Labor day weekend is your chance to experience eateries with full attention from the staff, less waiting time for tables and quiet streets. We’ve compiled a list that is sure to please.
Obica Mozzarella Bar, Pizza e Cucina
Obicà Flatiron is the perfect option for fresh and light Italian fare. Guests will love the mouth-watering mozzarella bar options, shipped in twice weekly from Campana. And while mozzarella is the star of the show, Obicà offers plenty of delicious traditional Italian meals – like their impeccably light Bufala DOP e Pomodoro pizza made with bufala mozzarella, organic veggies and herbs; or the house-made Pappardelle pasta with duck Tuscan style Ragu. And on September 5th of this Labor Day Weekend, Obicà will be having a pizza special for National Cheese Pizza Day; two of their delicious pizzas will be available for a reduced price! Pair any dish with wine from Obicà’s extensive program. Everything about this fashionable, contemporary eatery screams fresh, bold, and original, so come in, relax, and let your taste buds take over.
Hakkasan Dim Sum Brunch
For an exotic brunch experience without leaving the city, look no further than Hakkasan in Midtown West. Their signature Dim Sum Brunch will be available on Sunday the 6th with a vast selection of traditional dim sum dishes, such as scallop shumai, crispy prawn dumplings, har gau, and roasted duck udon noodles with XO sauce. Complete with a Jasmine & Lemongrass Iced Tea and selection of macarons to end the meal, the brunch is a delicious deal for $39. (Cocktails a la carte, reservations highly suggested)
Looking to spending Labor Day on the water, but can’t quite make it to the beach? Le District, the French-inspired marketplace and dining destination located downtown in Brookfield Place, recently opened its Terrace with 250 outdoor seats and sweeping Hudson River views. Perfect for large groups looking to cap of their summer in a relaxed, stylish setting, the Terrace aims to transport guests to the South of France with lounge couches and authentic dishes, think escargots, moules frites, and oysters, of course! Rosé, seafood and waterfront dining? Ouí ouí. (A la carte, reservations highly suggested)
STK Rooftop Downtown
If you’re in NYC on Labor Day, be sure to explore the revived Meatpacking District by walking on the Highline, visiting the new Whitney Museum, and then stopping by STK Rooftop for brunch, drinks or dinner. Signature menu items include Lil’ BRGS made with waygu beef – add foie gras or truffles if you’re feeling indulgent, and Crispy Pork Belly with watermelon, feta and shiso. Cocktails are a must when dining al fresco; opt for the Black Dhalia cocktail with Jalapeno infused Don Julio Blanco Tequila, Watermelon Juice and Hibiscus Salt.
STK Midtown Patio
Should you find yourself in Midtown over Labor Day weekend, be sure to stop by STK Midtown and their fantastic outdoor patio. Starting the weekend early? On Friday, STK Midtown’s Patio offers buy-1-get-1 cocktails and $10 bites. Lunch and dinner are never a bore with their delicious steaks, luxe seafood towers and signature sides such as their Lobster Mac & Cheese. (STK Midtown is closed on Monday, September 7th).
