When it comes to al fresco dining, it doesn’t get much better than a meal with a seaside view. From overstuffed lobster rolls and creamy clam chowder to juicy steaks and fresh sushi rolls, here are our picks for the best places in Boston for lunch with a waterfront view.
1 Smith & Wollensky Atlantic Wharf
This well known steakhouse has one of the best addresses in the city sitting prominently on Atlantic Wharf. For the best experience, request a seat on the outdoor patio and get started with a sampling of shrimp cocktail, colossal lump crabmeat cocktail or chilled lobster cocktail before cutting into a super juicy dry aged bone-in New York sirloin or charbroiled filet mignon. They also offer a nice selection of salads, including a Caesar, cobb, chilled iceberg and zesty mixed greens. When it comes to sandwiches, we recommend the lobster BLT, chicken club or their signature Wollensky’s Butcher Burger.

2 Aragosta Bar + Bistro
Located in the North End, Aragosta Bar + Bistro at the Battery Wharf Hotel offers an incredible view of the Boston Harbor. From your patio seat, order up the chef’s choice of salumi and formaggio or indulge in the massive shellfish tower filled with littlenecks, oysters, jumbo shrimp cocktail and lobster cocktail. Cool off with a Romaine salad with roasted garlic dressing topped with shrimp or share a sausage and broccoli rabe flatbread. Italian favorites include a meatball ciabatta sandwich, linguine tossed with clams in a savory white wine lemon sauce with spicy crushed red peppers and the rich rigatoni Bolognese made with a veal and oxtail ragu.

3 ICA Water Café
Before an afternoon of checking out the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston’s Seaport District, we recommend spending some time at the on-site harborside Water Café. They offer a lunchbox menu that includes gallery admission and a boxed lunch served Tuesday through Friday. The lunchbox menu here includes a pesto chicken wrap with marinated summer squash, roasted garlic hummus wrap or pork belly BLT wrap made with spicy aioli.
100 Northern Avenue Boston, MA 02210
Sushi, sashimi and seaside dining. It doesn’t get much better than Sushi-Teq located at the Intercontinental Hotel facing the Fort Point Channel waterfront. Order up one of their specialty cocktails here, including their signature Guava Guanabana or a margarita made with one of more than 100 premium tequilas. Lunch specials here include a bento box with seaweed salad, edamame and green tea. You can also order up some individual pieces of sushi like our favorite the Atlantic spicy tuna roll or Big Dig spicy salmon roll filled with salmon, cucumber and tempura chips. If you can’t decide what to order, leave the decision to the chef, who will create a sashimi flight or a platter of Omakase sushi creations.

5 Rowes Wharf Sea Grille
The Boston Harbor Hotel is highly regarded for Daniel Bruce’s upscale Meritage Restaurant + Wine Bar for dinner. When it comes to a casual lunch, we head to the nearby Rowes Wharf Sea Grille for al fresco dining on the outdoor patio overlooking the Boston Harbor. (It is here where the Spirit of Boston and Odyssey are also docked). There is a lobster roll and fried fish sandwich on the lunch menu here, but we love the grilled sea scallops, sautéed lemon sole and pan roasted silver hake with barley couscous. For non seafood lovers, try the three-cheese ravioli or grilled sirloin.
