Fourth of July falling on a Saturday only happens every five or six years, so if you’ve always wanted to throw on that red, white, and blue Dolce and Gabbana dress and host a blowout bash celebrating America’s birthday, the time to plan it is now! To help you get things moving, we’ve rounded up the five things you need for the ultimate 4th of July party.
1 Fatted Calf Meat Products
The 4th of July calls for an all-American spread of classic barbecued dishes and there’s no better place for every meaty need than the Fatted Calf. With stores in Hayes Valley and Napa, the Fatted Calf has every type of meat possible from housemade sausages (pork links made with different local brews, lamb coils with herbs de Provence, and German style sausages with parsley, lemon, and onion to name a few) to ribs (smothered in a house spice rub that features Aleppo pepper, brown sugar, and salt) that are ready to be thrown on the grill. Fatted Calf also has plenty of California-inspired sides to round out your menu: chopped little gem salad with radishes, fennel, cucumbers and creme fraiche and herb dressing and chickpea and couscous salad with red peppers, plus dried pantry and appetizer items like pasta, cheese, and crackers. Have your heart set on ribs and cole slaw? Call ahead to the Fatted Calf and they will be happy to make you a big batch of cabbage slaw.

2 B. Patisserie Pies
Yes, we know B. Patisserie, the place for breakfast and baked goods in Pacific Heights, is a French pastry shop, but their tarts are too good to be true and should be on your menu! Depending on the size of your guest list, we recommend that you order at least one of each of their signature tarts. Note that orders need to be made 72-hours in advance, so call before Thursday. There’s the classic 10-hour apple tart (a stand in for the all-American favorite apple pie. Pairing it with Three Twins vanilla ice cream is a must!), lemon tart (that can be made more festive with a topping of fresh blueberries and raspberries), and strawberry pistachio tart. If you want to appease the chocolate lovers, throw in a dozen each of B. Patisserie’s finger-licking good chocolate chip cookies and dense rich Valrhona fudge cookies.

3 Rye on the Road Cocktails
Mixing drinks at home can be a tedious task, especially when throwing a party. We advise that you leave the muddling and shaking to the professionals, so you can truly enjoy your guests and the holiday! When it comes to home bar tending services, the best in the Bay is Rye on the Road. From the founders of Rye in the Tenderloin, Rye on the Road brings all the supplies (including the bar, spirits, cocktail making tools, and fresh fruit) necessary to cater any party. The Rye on the Road bartenders are masters of their craft and can make any drink be it a simple cosmopolitan or a swizzle with berries and crushed ice. This is one company that you’ll be happy to raise a glass and toast to.
4 Church Street Flowers
No party is complete without beautiful floral arrangements and there’s no better place to call for the best bouquets than Church Street Flowers. Ask for red, white, and blue arrangements that are made with seasonal flowers like hydrangeas, garden roses, ranunculus, dahlias, and peonies. Place your order today to ensure that they can deliver the arrangements on or before Saturday.

5 The Speakeasies Jazz Band
Nothing sets the mood at any event, be it a barbecue for the 4th or a 50th anniversary party, like a live band and we’re huge fans of the Speakeasies Jazz band. The group is incredibly professional and can play everything from soft acoustic jazz to blues from the 50s. Why not ask if they can throw a couple of patriotic tunes in the mix as well? The Speakeasies will add a little classic glamour to the party.
