MIA: James Beard Award-Winner Sherry Yard Shines at Tanzy Boca

After Hamid Hashemi founded the fast-growing Muvico chain, he took the movie-going experience a step further — becoming Founder & CEO of iPic Entertainment and creating the nation’s top luxury theater brand. But with its platinum standard of opulence, plush recliners, personal pillows, blankets, butlers, full-service bar and 5-star service, the one thing Hamid still needed was a standout, in-house restaurant with a raved-about chef.

Enter, Tanzy Restaurant: a modern, Amalfi Coast-inspired twist on traditional Italian, led by iPic Entertainment’s Vice President of Culinary Development, Sherry Yard.

Before joining the iPic family, Sherry Yard is no stranger to the award-winning food scene. Reigning as Executive Pastry Chef of the Wolfgang Puck empire for more than twenty years, Sherry’s desserts have been served at the Academy Awards Governor’s Ball, the Grammy Awards and the Emmy Awards. The author of two best-sellers, The Secret of Baking and Desserts by the Yard, she earned two James Beard Awards — one for “Outstanding Pastry Chef of the Year” and another for “Best Baking Book” — and was later inducted into  the James Beard Foundation’s prestigious “Who’s Who of Food & Beverage in America.” Her laundry list of accomplishments, delectable desserts and satisfied customers since the beginning of her career could go on and on. And even if she’s no longer only making desserts, Sherry is still the same chef she was when she started: one who is down-to-earth, passionate, talented, driven and in love with the art of cooking.

At Tanzy Boca just last month to debut her newest seasonal dishes, Sherry whipped up tasty appetizers of beef carpaccio, Tuscan kale, an eggplant “Sicilian Stack” and a “Parma” plate with coppa, prosciutto, salami, gorgonzola dolce, cornichons, maple glazed pecans, rosemary mustard, grilled bread and marinated olives. Her mouthwatering mains proved equally tantalizing, offering guests a menu of pan-seared scallops with roasted brussel sprouts and bacon lardons, yellowtail snapper with a vermentino white wine sauce, orecchiette, branzino with fennel purée, braised Angus beef short rib with toasted pearl barley, and more. And while Sherry has come up with many delicious desserts to choose from, this ex-pastry chef left little to the imagination with her decadent Torta Di Cioccolate: a chocolate torte with dark chocolate cream, salted caramel and banana gelato.

With Sherry leading the kitchen, Tanzy Boca — and all iPic Entertainment dining options — are in for a treat. And if it’s anything like that last tempting torta, we can’t wait to see what’s in store.

Tanzy Boca is located in Boca Raton’s Mizner Park, at 327 Plaza Real.
