Jennifer Siebel Newsom, founder and CEO of the Representation Project, has been selected as a judge for the Cannes Lion Festival. The Cannes Lion Festival, founded in 1954, is equal in its honor to the Cannes Film Festival. But as opposed to awarding the best in art cinema, the Cannes Lion Festival awards the world’s leading creativity in communications and advertising, receving 35,000 entries from around the world every year.

Newsom will serve as a judge for the inaugural Glass Lion: The Lion for Change award that will honor work that has challenged gender roles and steretypes. As a filmmaker, CEO, and creator of the #NotBuyingIt campaign, Newsom was selected as one of ten accomplished, diverse experts for the judging panel.

“I am excited and honored to be chosen for the Glass Lion jury with nine incredible leaders in their field and be a part of the most prestigious advertising festival in the world,” said Newsom. “We need to hold media and advertisers responsible for their role in creating culture and I am thrilled to be a part of celebrating those who are challenging and shattering gender norms.”

Newsom will be in Cannes, France for the event from June 21 to 24. After, Newsom heads to London to screen her much lauded documentary, The Mask You Live In. The documentary explores how society’s rigid view of what masculinity is and should be critically stunts the creative and intellectual growth of men.
