The diminutive engines in most electric cars lack the satisfying “oomph” of a high-octane, gas engine, but a new vehicle from Finnish automaker Toroidion is looking to challenge those perceptions.

The retro-styled Toroidion 1MW concept car was recently unveiled at the Top Marques auto show in Monaco. The vehicle sports a beastly 1,341 horsepower engine that can easily out-muscle many of its gas guzzling counterparts. According to Toroidion CEO Pasi Pennanen, the car was originally designed with the hope that it would compete in Le Mans, a prestigious 24-hour race in France. Toroidion says he has no doubts that the car would crush the competition.

The Toroidion is also surprisingly practical. Unlike many electric cars, the batter can be completely removed and carried inside to charge through a typical outlet. Those that prefer can also use one of the car’s two charge ports.  The 1MW also has enough trunk space to fit airline luggage, a rarity in supercars of this type.

The Toroidion 1MW also packs the satisfying roar of a real super when it’s pushed above 125 mph. “it sounds like a mixture of a Grand Prix car engine and a jet turbine together,” said Pennanen.

An exact price has not been set for the car, but interested buyers should expect to pay somewhere between $1.5 and $3 million. Toroidion hopes to garner enough interest and orders to produce 100 Toroidion 1MW vehicles and begin delivering them in around two years. The ultimate goal is to mass produce the car and bring the asking price down to levels that might entice buyers who might otherwise buy something like a Tesla.
