Miami Symphony Orchestra’s Greek Brunch on May 30th

0014

Just when you thought the social season was over and all the cultural institutions had either taken a break or fled north for the summer, comes one more. On Saturday, May 30th, there will be a fundraising brunch for the Miami Symphony Orchestra called Big Hats & Bow Ties at Milos. Event co-chairs include Criselda Breene, Tina Carlo, Iran Issa-Khan, Sam Robin, and Trudy Courey. The host committee is pretty fun too with names like Chapman and Kristin Ducote, Ines Rivero, Barbara Becker, and Fernando Wong.

“We’re the hippest orchestra in Florida,” explains Athina Marturet, wife of the symphony’s conductor Eduardo Marturet. At eight years old we’re relatively new, but we do a lot of great fusions every year. We’re very creative.”

The event will raise funds for the next season. “This is our equivalent of a gala. We do brunch instead, which is so much fun,” adds Marturet. Last year they held the event at Juvia, and this year it will be at Milos with an all-out Greek theme. “I am Greek, so I’m very excited about the theme,” says Marturet. “There will be Greek music, Greek coffee, Greek dancers, and of course, a Greek feast.” There will also be violins. Tickets cost $350 and can be bought online here.
