It’s not unusual for a fashion designer visiting San Francisco to have a socialite or two host a luncheon in his or her honor. Peter Copping had not just a luncheon but a breakfast as well during his recent visit, his first to the City by the Bay since taking his new role as creative director for Oscar de la Renta in October.

Copping replaced the late de la Renta, who was adorned by the ladies who lunch crowd worldwide—especially the Bay Area style mavens. The always stylish Komal Shah and equally fabulous Barbara Brown were personal friends of the couturier who lost his graceful battle to cancer on Oct. 20, 2014. The dynamic duo hosted an afternoon for Copping at Saks Fifth Avenue on May 21, when the fashionable attendees enjoyed a short speech made the acclaimed designer and private viewing of the latest collection. This personal appearance was a precursor to the much anticipated, Saks Fifth Avenue hosted, Oscar de la Renta fashion show on August 1 in Lake Tahoe.

The following morning, Carole McNeil and Gina Peterson co-hosted a breakfast gathering at the Rotunda Restaurant at Neiman Marcus Union Square for Copping’s pre-fall collection, in stores now and which was shown on models, and the Fall Collection, available now for pre-order.

De la Renta was an ambassador to the League to Save Lake Tahoe whose mission to “Keep Tahoe Blue” was bolstered by the millions of dollars he helped raise during his annual fashion shows for 15 years. The annual Fashion Show and Luncheon, the highlight of the Tahoe’s summer season, will pay tribute to de la Renta and commemorate his legacy in the most fitting way.
