We’re celebrating Earth Day this week, so let’s take a closer look at the most luxurious hybrid cars. In case you haven’t considered one in a while, let’s just say they’ve come a long way, baby.

1 Porsche 918 Hybrid Spyder

This is an $845,000 super car that was introduced in 2014. It's a V-8 that can go from 0-60 in 2.5 seconds hitting 211 mph, which is on par with the world's best. Porsche says the 4.6 liter, 887 horse power hybrid supercar marks a new chapter for them. We agree, it certainly turns the page on the wish list.

2 Porsche Panamera S-E Hybrid

The Porsche Panameria is one of our favorite cars of all time, so naturally a hybrid version is quite the gift. The MPG 22 city / 30 hwy isn't amazing until you consider that even the "base" engine on this beautiful beast has 416 horses under the hood. So set aside any notions of boring electrics, this plug in model can actually reach 167 miles per hour. MSRP: $99,000

3 Mercedes S 400 Hybrid

Any Mercedes S-class is good by us, but when it's a hybrid, it's even better. This one uses a lithium ion battery and has an optimized 3.5-liter V6 gasoline unit in combination with an electric motor. A plug-in version arrived last fall. The fun part is this model is priced less than the S550 Sedan, so you'll have immediate "payout," as they say. MSRP $97,000 - $120,000.

Last year we highlighted the BMW activehybrid7, but this year it's all about the i8, a plug-in hybrid. It's a unique concept that allows for "perfect synchronization of the electric motor and combustion engines. The engine is a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder monster, and uses BMW's valve timing and throttle control technologies to get to 228 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. Did we mention its beautiful? Starts at $135,700

5 Lexus LS 600 h

This is Lexus at its most luxurious. The LS features an extended wheelbase car that's great for drivers or people over 6' 4" such as basketball players and well, my family. Over-the-top features include a 16-way power driver seat and a 19-speaker Mark Levinson sound system. The only drawback is that with an average of 20 mpg, the car barely gets better gas milage than its gasoline sibling. That said the zero to sixty isn't bad at 6 seconds flat.
