Howard Lorber is President and CEO of Vector Group, a pretty serious holding company that owns a chunk of Morgans Hotel Group and the majority of Douglas Elliman, of which Lorber is chairman. He’s also the chairman of Nathan’s Famous and on the board of directors at Morgans Hotel Group. Naturally, Lorber’s days are pretty busy whether in his Manhattan or Fisher Island abode; so to unwind, Lorber indulges in his favorite pastime—bird hunting. Haute Living caught up with the mogul at his new, 50-acre ranch at Pine Creek Sporting Club in Okeechobee, FL where he takes us through his typical day.
5AM: I get up and read The New York Post and The Wall Street Journal. Sometimes in New York, I get up at 4 AM and start texting my friends. Most of the time they’re up too.
6AM: I’ll head to the living room, have a cup of coffee with my guests and chat with them for a bit.
7AM: The truck will pick us up to go for a quail hunt on the property. I enjoy the beauty of just walking through the fields with the dogs. We’re usually back by 9 AM.
10AM: We all all head down to the lodge for breakfast. I will eat either blueberries or scrambled eggs and take that time to check my emails. I don’t make too many calls because the guys I talk to everyday are usually with me.

11 AM: I may make a few business calls. I run the biggest real estate brokerage company and there is always something to attend to. After that, we’ll go sit down at the fire pit by the lake at my ranch and smoke some cigars and decide what we want to do later. Sometimes we go to the gym or skeet shooting range.
1 PM: We go into Okeechobee, grab some lunch, and see what’s going on. It’s a really small town so we might hit up a western or sporting goods store, or go to a movie. I’ve been meaning to go to a cattle auction. Another thing I am going to do is rescue some horses and give them a home in my barn. It seems like a good thing to do and I have 8 stalls, so there is plenty of room.
4 PM: We go back into the fields for the afternoon hunt. It is good exercise and I like watching the dogs work. Quail tastes pretty good, but I don’t really eat it much.
7 PM: We head back to the ranch and have dinner. They always have something fun planned and it is the best place to eat for miles!
