Professional poker player Dan Smith was a big winner at the first ever GPI American Poker Awards: not only was he named “Player of the Year,” but he also took home a bespoke La Monégasque timepiece from Roger Dubuis.
The dinner, held at the SLS Beverly Hills on Friday night, honored top players and industry contributors in the world of poker; it was hosted by well-known poker player and media personality Kara Scott.

Smith, a younger player whose tournament winnings have exceeded $9 million, was presented with the watch by Jorge Puentes, Roger Dubuis Brand President of North America.
“It is an honor not only to receive the award for ‘Player of the Year’, but also to own such a brilliant piece of fine watchmaking,” said Smith during his speech. “I have come to admire the passionate and daring nature of the brand, and I can’t think of a better way to commemorate this moment than with a one-of-a-kind piece from Roger Dubuis.”

One-of-a-kind it is. With its distinctive silhouette accentuated by refined and elegant lines, the bespoke piece has been personalized with Smith’s name metallized on the sapphire glass caseback, revealing the exclusive in-house RD821 mechanical self-winding caliber.
Roger Dubuis’ participation came through a partnership with the Global Poker Index (GPI), the game’s ranking authority. Through said partnership, the brand will also honor the continental “Player of the Year” at the European Poker Awards on March 25th in Malta.
