Classic luxury American leather goods company Ghurka will be making their debut on British soil by launching at renowned locale Fortnum & Mason in London on 16 March. The shop-in-shop concept, which is being created with the support of the Gurkha Welfare Trust, will mark the brand’s 40th anniversary as well as the 200th anniversary of the Gurkha service to the British crown.
“Fortnum & Mason is the perfect partner for our European launch,” said Pam Bristow, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Brand Strategy at Ghurka. “The Piccadilly store is an international icon, a benchmark for excellence, and represents the commitment to quality we hold as our standard.” Karen England, Director of Fundraising & Communications for The Gurkha Welfare Trust, added that, “We are delighted to form this new relationship with Ghurka, whose very name demonstrates their high regard for the ex-servicemen we support. The quality of Ghurka’s products rivals the exceptional standards of Britain’s Gurkha soldiers, and through our partnership we hope to raise significant funds in support of elderly and infirm veterans in Nepal.”
Adding to the elegant and sophisticated interior of Fortnum & Mason, the Ghurka space will offer a selection of the brand’s leather travel goods, as well as watch collector boxes, wallets and wash bags. Customers will be able to visit the shop on the third floor of the luxury British retailer, which will also include special fixtures and embellishments shipped all the way from Ghurka’s New York showroom. “This London expansion is pivotal for Ghurka,”explains the company’s CEO John Reuter of the choice to debut their international presence in the capital. “The UK represents our namesake as well as the next step in global reach for our brand. We are honoured to have such distinguished partners alongside us in this launch and are excited to be able to serve our British customers in their wonderful city.”
