British Fashion Council’s Contemporary Shop Opens on eBay

Now entering its second season, the British Fashion Council’s Contemporary Shop it set to open once more on eBay, showcasing emerging new design talent that can be shopped by users.

Running from February 20 – March 11, and in celebration of London Fashion Week, the BFC Contemporary Shop celebrates the designers participating in the BFC Contemporary initiative through an exclusive online pop-up boutique set to entice and intrigue customers. This season, those taking part in the scheme are Alexis Barrell, Georgia Hardinge, PAPER LONDON and Zoë Jordan, with focus pieces being gorgeous silk scarves and clutch bags that can transform into tablet cases. “We are delighted to announce the return of the BFC Contemporary Shop to eBay.co.uk. This season, we will offer style-hunters an inspiring capsule collection of accessories that reflects each designer’s unique aesthetic providing something for all fashion appetites,” said Melanie Smallwood, head of curation and merchandising at eBay.

In addition to helping these young designers get their foot in the door, the pop-up aims to make high fashion accessible to all with this range of limited edition items and accessories all priced under £100. And with pieces inspired by a whole range of concepts, the eBay boutique promises a vibrant and colourful offering. “I’m a sculptural designer so I start with paper, which I then transform into fabrics. This time I pleated leather and melted it down to create a molded look on the clutch. For the scarf I pleated paper and cut shapes before digitally adding yellow colour to finish,” explained Georgia Hardinge of her contribution to the BFC Contemporary Shop. Alexis Barrell however, has looked to more far-reaching destinations: “I was inspired this season by the traditional clothing of Bhutan. The scarf focuses on the lotus flower, which in crimson symbolises love and compassion. The bag carries the ancient symbolism of Metta, loving kindness,” he told LOOK.
