Fortnum & Mason Christmas Windows Unveiled

Last night Fortnum & Mason marked the countdown to Christmas with the unveiling of their famous windows. Fortnum’s chairman, Kate Hobson, pressed the button to reveal the displays, before inviting customers into the Piccadilly store for an evening of seasonal fun.

This year’s windows, a cherished tradition since the 1880s, are based on the ‘Frost Fayres’ of centuries ago when a frozen Thames would host incredible markets and carnivals. In keeping with the ‘frost fayre’ theme, a stilt walking Ice King and Queen, acrobatic elves and a juggling Jack Frost were on-hand to entertain the crowds that gathered outside the store.

After the unveiling guests were invited into the store where they were treated to mini hot turkey rolls, Christmas pudding ice cream, mince pies, Florentines and shortbread. Naturally, Christmas tea was served, while those seeking festive spirit were able to sip Absinthe, Hendricks’s gin, Grey Goose vodka, and the perennial festive favourite, mulled wine.  For those seeking Christmas shopping inspiration, there was personalised gifting services available with a number of Fortnum’s experts in jewellery, fine china and accessories –  including Rory Dobner, Richard Brendon, Halycon Days and Grossmith.
