‘Second Floor’, An Exhibition of Photographic Works Showcasing The Private Apartment of Coco Chanel by Sam Taylor-Johnson

A look into the private apartment of Mademoiselle Chanel can be experienced in ‘Second Floor’, an exhibition of photographs by Sam Taylor-Johnson at Saatchi Gallery in London.

On display will be 34 photographs that capture the private rooms of Mademoiselle Chanel in her apartment on 31 Rue Cambon in Paris. The images start from the mirrored staircase that leads up to her apartment. Johnson, a Turner Prize nominee, has captured the legendary designer’s intimate world, artfully immortalizing objects and furniture that were so treasured by Mademoiselle Chanel. “Shooting at Coco Chanel’s apartment was an unexpectedly absorbing experience,” says Taylor-Johnson. “The essence of Chanel is firmly rooted there in all of her possessions and I truly believe that her spirit and soul still inhabits the second floor.”

The photographs bring to life the numbers, patterns, colors and emblematic animals that are synonymous with the designer’s creative vocabulary and which she continuously instilled throughout her fashion design.

The exhibition will open on on 12th September 2014 and run until Monday 22nd September.
