Indeed it’s hard to find something to moan about for the reality is that the rooms are all so tasteful that it’s easy not to venture too far from your quarters.
The top notch dining options will ensure you don’t want to stray too far from the restaurants either: The Berkeley’s elegant eateries have earned a reputation for quality. For a casual dining experience, try Koffmann’s – Pierre Koffman’s informal, French-style bistro.
Or check out The Caramel Room; a delightful spot at any time of day, but particularly for Prêt a Portea – arguably London’s most popular afternoon tea. The quintessentially British ritual has been given a stylish twist; instead of scones expect a collection of canapés, cakes and doll sized taster spoons inspired by the current fashion collections.
When night falls, there’s no finer restaurant than the two Michelin starred Marcus (formerly Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley) which reopened in March 2014 following a stunning refurbishment.
Of course there’s more to this high end hotel, than its restaurants. Other assets include the beautiful Blue Bar – the perfect spot to sip champagne against, as the name suggests, a blue backdrop and revel in the company of A-listers like Robert De Niro, Johnny Depp and her Madgesty, the one and only Madonna.
Up on the seventh floor, the spa and health club is definitely worth a look; the piece de resistance is the stunning rooftop swimming pool.
Alternatively work up a stylish sweat in the state of the art gym; each piece of cardio equipment is fitted with a personal TV/Hi-Fi monitor with headphones. For something more relaxing, try a treatment in the spa – whatever you could ask for is offered.
Beyond The Berkeley, iconic department stores such as Harrods and Harvey Nichols are a mere few minutes walk away making the property well placed for anyone up for a retail therapy fix.
But The Berkeley’s biggest draw isn’t its enviable postcode, but its employees. The hotel’s inviting and welcoming atmosphere is boosted by helpful staff such as ‘Tony’ who is still smiling after 34 years – we kid you not – of service. This, you see, is the kind of place that seduces staff and guests into staying longer than planned.
