Now open but a few months, the Conrad Hotel boasts a range of innovative dining options among which is Latin American at IZEL, Marco Pierre White and Cave, a Parisian food alcove and wine bar which has recently launched a delicious new menu of treats.
This trendy hangout, hidden on the mezzanine level of the Conrad, easily entices guests with its soft lighting, chalk cave walls and mood-setting fireplace, creating a warm and relaxed atmosphere for guests to explore.
This was exactly the sort of ambiance that I entered when invited to sample the Cave’s new menu. The eatery is distinctly a wine bar. With more than 500 bottles of grapes to choose from, guests can enjoy the hidden booths and daybeds and marvel at the many bottles lined up against the wall. I soon was able to relish the deliciously rich and fresh flavors of some of the new specialties. These included traditional soups of Lobster Bisque and Soupe à L’Oignon. Discover the irresistible ‘entrées’ showcasing the best of quintessentially French creations including Terrine De Boeuf, Rillettes De Canard and Escargots à La Bourguignonne.
In between tastes of some of the Cave’s wonderful grapes were also tastes of the menu’s signature ‘plats de resistance’ including old time favorites, such as Steak Frites, Lobster Thermidor and Moules Frites. For cheese connoisseurs, an array of famous names will allow for real indulgence whether enjoyed as a ‘croques’, fondue or a cheeseboard complimented with an assortment of cured meats. And to satiate one’s sweet tooth there is a traditional trio of desserts – Crème Brulée & Raspberries, Chocolate Fondue and Canneles & Foie Gras Ice Cream.
Utterly fresh (I was told that even the beef was fed acorns) and rich, these dishes wrapped up into a truly gastronomic affair and one worth trying.
Be sure to try the Cave’s weekly offers including‘The Emancipation Hour’ from Sunday until Wednesday 5:00 – 7:00pm where guests can ‘buy one bottle and get another for half off’. Recovery Saturdays brings a special brunch menu to help you recover from the night before, with DIY Bloody Marys and Mimosas. The ‘After Brunch Price Crunch’ makes Fridays a little more spectacular between 4:00 until 6:00pm with a ‘buy one get the same half off’ on any bottle of grape.
