Breathe a sigh of relief: Tom Hanks is “healthier than ever” after revealing his diabetes diagnosis last fall.

The two-time Oscar winner revealed in October that he suffers from type 2 diabetes, the most common of the conditions. Those with type 2 diabetes suffer from insulin resistance; the body cannot use insulin properly.

After undergoing a healthier lifestyle and losing weight, Rita Wilson, Hank’s wife of nearly 30 years, proclaimed that he’s not just doing fine, he’s great.

“He’s dropped weight, he exercises every day, and he’s eating properly and… thank God, doing really well,” she said, stating that the diagnosis served as a wakeup call to her husband.

Previously, the 57-year-old star had admitted that doctors had advised him to slim down to help control the symptoms, but expressed self-doubt at being able to undergo such a life change in his late fifties.

He joked “My doctor said, ‘If you can weigh what you weighed in high school, you’ll essentially be completely healthy and not have Type 2 diabetes.’ And I said, ‘Well, I’m going to have Type 2 diabetes then.'”
