Team Valiente Wins Piaget Gold Cup In Final Minutes

High-goal polo is nothing if not exciting. Thundering horses, handsome players from faraway lands and a gold cup clinched in the final two minutes of the match made for a thrilling Sunday on March 23rd in Wellington. The match marked the end of the three-weekend Piaget Gold Cup tournament that saw finalists Valiente (Adolfo Cambiaso, Sapo Caset, Santi Torres and Robert Jornayvaz) and Alegria (Clemente Zavaleta, Mariano Aguerre, Hilario Ulloa and Julian Mannix,) facing off.

At at Piaget lunch attended by Larry Boland, President of Piaget North America, the Facundo Pieres and his brothers, and IPC’s owners before the match, Piaget’s North American polo ambassador, Jeff Hall, explained that Valiente was the favorite but that the game would be close. And was he quite right! While Alegria was ahead at one point, and the match closely tied the rest, the game was won 10-11 in the last two minutes. Piaget, the title sponsor and official timekeeper of the tournament for seven years running, had a beautiful display set up featuring their timepieces.

On view were their Piaget Polo FortyFive timepiece collection, including the bold black-on-black Chronograph and Automatic in ALDC-treated titanium. Rising above the timepiece presentation, was a life-sized polished aluminum polo pony and rider filled with hundreds of their signature fragrant pink Yves Piaget Roses along with the legendary Piaget Gold Cup trophy. After the match, Boland awarded the trophy to team Valiente and the party, fueled by Veuve Cliquot champagne, continued in the Member’s area.
