Sotheby’s Designer Showhouse On Display in NYC This Week

Looking for a little design inspiration? Then stop by Sotheby’s this week for its inaugural designer showhouse, where six innovative designers will curate a room on the sixth floor exhibition space of the auction house’s Manhattan headquarters using items from the spring catalog.

Each artist was given a different architectural space (i.e. bedroom, living room, dining room or library) and a selection of items from Sotheby’s upcoming auctions including English & Continental furniture, 20th century design, Contemporary and Impressionist prints, African and European sculpture, carpets, Old Master paintings, ceramics and silver. From there, they were given complete artistic freedom to design the rooms any way they saw fit.

“We hope that these spaces will demonstrate how good pieces of fine and decorative art can transcend time and space and that the dialogue between these pieces within a contemporary context not only allows the viewer an opportunity to reflect upon the pieces’ historical and art historical importance, but also gives these pieces new meaning and significance in the world of today,” explains the Sotheby’s website.

The showhouse is open to the public from 10 AM to 5 PM through March 30. It will remain open until 8 PM on March 26.
