Now that the Olympics are over and people have seen what snowboarders can do in one halfpipe, Red Bull and the Aspen Skiing Co. are introducing the double pipe for a competition taking place March 19-23 at Buttermilk Mountain. It will then air April 12 as part of the Red Bull Signature Series. The halfpipes will be built side-by-side with rails, wallrides, channels and other unique features sprinkled throughout the custom-built snow feature.
Each halfpipe will be over 550 feet long, approximately 68 feet wide, and 22 feet tall with an approximate 4-foot-wide spine located in between each pipe. It will be 180 feet wide, making it the largest halfpipe feature built to date.
“Progression is a beautiful thing,” says John Rigney, vice president of sales and events for SkiCo. “It’s always incredibly exciting having the best athletes in the world competing here in Aspen/Snowmass, but to see this select group tackle an entirely new challenge at Buttermilk right here in our backyard is going to be amazing. We are proud to partner with Red Bull on another groundbreaking event.”
The Red Bull Double Pipe contest will feature some of the best riders in the world, March 19-23. It’s free for the public to watch it all go down at the base of Buttermilk.
