He is a celebrity in his respective industry, also heavily focused on the actual celebrities themselves. Oribe, Co-founder and Creative Director of Oribe Hair Care is also a Miami Beach Resident. I reached out to this sought after hair guru to find out about his line of Oribe products.
Your spray for the beach, is it most suitable on a certain hair color?
My Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray separates and clumps the hair to give it gorgeous texture and shine. It’s not greasy so it’s good for all hair types, and because it’s salt-less it clumps hair in a natural way that’s glamorous. You don’t want dry, clumpy hair so my beach spray is incredible.
What inspired you to create this? Was it Miami?
I don’t believe in using saltwater in the hair – it’s drying and makes you itch. The minute that I get out of the ocean I want to shower. I do like the look that saltwater gives hair, and with my Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray you can recreate the look without the damage because it is salt-less. To me it’s about glamour, and the last thing you want is dry, clumpy hair. You want soft, beautiful hair, and the ingredients in this product are phenomenal and really high performing.
How long has the product line been sold for? I see the beautiful packaging at Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus among others…..
The brand launched in January 2009. After so many years of working as a salon stylist and fashion stylist, in many ways I became a chemist myself by mixing products together to achieve a variety of desired results. It was the right timing with the right partners, and we developed high-quality, luxury treatments for hair that are a true reflection of my vision from the packaging to the ingredients.
It is a product line with a theme, a heart and a soul. These are products made by the best chemists in the world, with the best ingredients and the most spectacular packaging. Quality was the word most used when making this product line.
How do you suggest someone uses the regiment, I know there is a mousse, spray etc.
My products Surfcomber Tousled Texture Mousse and Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray will enhance natural wave. If you don’t have a wave, it will give you the look using your natural texture. It’s super modern, and of the moment.
Après clumps the hair, as if you just left the beach. It’s not greasy and is salt-less for a look that leaves hair shiny, with texture that’s natural and glamorous.
Surfcomber is a mousse that will also clump hair, and gives hair real beach texture that’s undone, modern and sexy. You can achieve separation, hold and shine. Mousse has extraordinary distribution, which allows you to easily apply product through the hair. A lot of women struggle to achieve the right texture at home, but mousse is a great way to achieve the desired texture. I wanted mousse formulas that could be used in the traditional way, and also on dry hair. The ability to use these mousses on dry hair really makes a difference in achieving the perfect texture.

We just introduced the Intense Conditioner for Moisture & Control, and eleven travel and purse-sized products in some of our most-popular formulas. There is much more to come in 2014.
