On Saturday while rushing to prepare myself for the BrazilFoundation Gala, I stopped by Neiman Marcus Bal Harbour to meet with the Creative Director for RENE CAOVILLA, Mr. Edoardo Caovilla. How could I possibly pass up the opportunity to meet the third generation behind one of the most sought after cobblers of modern times?

Having come from Italy, where he splits his time between Milan and Venice (where they have a petit yet glam shop near Piazza San Marco), Caovilla came to Miami to meet and greet the major fans of the Caovilla silver sole… The silver sole was coined by Edoardo’s father, who is still very hands on with the brand. He though it was a way to recognize their shoes while giving them a luxury look. Edoardo tells Haute Living “I have been Creative Director for four years. My grandfather and father still design with me. It is in my DNA. This collection at Neiman Marcus is a capsule collection. It is very contemporary and a bit crazy. My grandfather in 1934, between WWI and WWII decided to create something so special. Some of these shoes in this collection came from the archives in Venice.”

All of Caovilla’s shoes are made with Swarovski crystals and done by hand. There are one hundred people working in their factories, from very old cobblers to younger relatives. Each pair of shoes takes from eight to ten hours to produce as well. That’s haute!
