Hallelujah! San Franciscans no longer have to head to Las Vegas or purchase single pieces at Neiman Marcus now that the Alexander McQueen boutique has finally arrived in Union Square. The British fashion label opened it’s sixth stand-alone store in the U.S. on Maiden Lane in late September. Alexander McQueen Creative Director Sarah Burton, with the help of design agency David Collins Studio, conceived the new 2,700-ft. concept store. The location carries ready-to-wear dresses, suits, shoes and accessories, including handbags and leather goods as well as the new limited-edition Damien Hirst scarves.

Yves Saint Laurent – now known as Saint Laurent – finally made a comeback to Union Square in October after being closed for four years. The store’s interior, designed by Hedi Slimane, is quite stunning with or without the merchandise. It’s all about the juxtaposition of black “Noir Soie”, marble against the White “Statuaire” marble, complimented by nickel-plated brass and extra clear glass. This is the brand’s first men’s store in the country, and offers men’s ready-to-wear as well as a full range of men’s accessories.

The classic British leather line has returned with a new Post Street boutique. The Ghurka store, which opened in mid December, is the third in the U.S., and largest, at 1,100 square feet. This ultimate traveler-lover’s parlor contains gear built for rugged adventures and far-flung luxury destinations. The store features almost any kind of leather item one can think of, from luxe umbrellas to bags and wallets, all reflective of the brand’s chic British military heritage.

The Italian luxury fashion house is giving our city more of its signature luxury, style, tradition and innovation. Ferragamo is starting fresh for the New Year with a newly opened boutique on Post Street, just two blocks away from its former location. The move marks the brand’s grand expansion by adding a second floor to one of Ferragamo’s most luxurious destinations. The boutique’s new, 11,000 square-foot, two story façade, boasts floor-to-ceiling glass windows and textured Italian marble. This year, in celebration of the Mid Winter Gala, Ferragamo will be featuring two limited-edition products exclusive to San Francisco in the newly relocated and expanded boutique: the Hayers Mini Sofia handbag for $2,650 and the Hayers Lucite clutch for $1,890.

Dahling. It’s a Valentino world, and finally, San Francisco is living in it. After weeks of waiting with bated breath, fashionistas were finally ready to partake in shopping sprees at Valentino, which made its debut in January with a brand new Union Square boutique. In the brand’s typically opulent style, it is less a store and more of a retail experience. The 10,000 square foot flagship, which is located on Grant Avenue, combines old and new to create an intimate atmosphere of a palazzo style personal space. An enfilade of rooms, each with a different aspect of the collection, not only separate the different types of merchandise but are also imbued with distinct atmospheres, as they are created by a custom palette of colors, textures, surfaces and light. The Grant Avenue boutique carries all product categories – from women’s ready-to-wear to handbags and shoe collections, along with a complete men’s collection; San Francisco is the first American boutique to carry the latter.
