I know that more people would be more charitable and give more time to philanthropic endeavors if they had more time, but with work, children, and other family obligations it can be hard. Luckily, there’s a way to give back that’s as easy as filling your stomach. With the New Year comes exciting new charitable initiatives organized by DMK RestaurantsFish Bar Chicago’s annual Friends of Fish program and DMK Burger Bar’s 365 Days of Giving calendar are back and better than ever! DMK Burger Bar’s (Multiple Locations) 365 Days of Giving program is back for 2014, teaming up with a different local non-profit organization every month to help raise funds and educate on their behalf. Each month, a charity in one of four different areas – hunger, wellness, children or the earth – are chosen. The 2014 efforts kick off in support of DMK Burger Bar’s neighborhood CPS Magnet Cluster School, The Nettelhorst School. The burger spot will offer a special Gingerbread Milkshake for $5 from January 22 through 28, with all proceeds benefitting the school.

Fish Bar Chicago, part of DMK Restaurants, is proud to announce the launch of its 2014 charitable program – Friends of Fish. During this charitable initiative, the Lakeview seafood spot teams up with a non-profit organization whose efforts focus on sustainable fishing, farming and the aquatic environment.  The Friends of Fish agenda, which begins with Shedd Aquarium for the first quarter, will boast a variety of efforts including donations, raffles, events, food and drink specials, and more.

Shedd Aquarium is dedicated to raising awareness about threats to the Great Lakes ecosystems and inspiring guests to make a difference – in their backyards and across the basin.  To continue its mission, Shedd has chosen a “Fish of the Month” for the months of January, February and March, each highlighting a sustainable seafood choice that Fish Bar will offer as a special.  The quarter one “Fish of the Month” specials are as follows:

January – Farmed Rainbow Trout

February – Dungeness Crab

March – Farmed Clams

In addition to the “Fish of the Month”, also in support of Shedd, $5 raffle tickets will be sold throughout the quarter for the chance to win a set of two passes to “Shedd Aquarium Feeding Tour: Behind the Scenes in Wild Reef.” Guests can experience mealtime with the sharks during a 50-minute guided exploration into how Shedd’s experts care for one of the aquarium’s most diverse and fascinating animal groups.

During quarter one, Fish Bar also brings back “Soup for the Soul,” where every Wednesday from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, complimentary soup will be shared outside of Fish Bar to passers-by, with suggested donations going to Shedd Aquarium.
