Wheeler Opera House

After a $2.6 million balcony renovation and upgrade to digital cinema projection, seeing films at the Wheeler Opera House is a new experience. And this winter the lineup is full so there are lots of reasons to check out the new digs.

In partnership with Aspen Film and MountainFilm in Telluride, the Wheeler Opera House presents Monday Docs. The Monday Docs are a series of documentary films exploring the people and stories that drive humanity and nature in an interesting ways. Some of these include “Salinger,” an intimate portrayal of the writer featuring more than 150 interviews with family, co-workers and friends (Feb. 24), and “Antarctica: Year on Ice,” a look at living on the loneliest continent in the world (March 3).

On Wednesday, the Wheeler hosts Rock Docs, also in partnership with Aspen Film. These rock documentaries bring the behind-the-scenes in music to the forefront, with stories like “Muscle Shoals” covering the little Alabama studio that rocked the musical world during the ’60s, playing this Wednesday, Jan. 29.

The Wheeler also launches another season of “Live from the Met in HD” with “Eugene Onegin” starting the winter series this Thursday, Jan. 29.
