Just because he’s decided to embark on a 22-day “plant-based” lifestyle cleanse, Jay-Z still managed to spend his 44th birthday in style.
He and wife Beyonce Knowles headed to Cafe Gratitude in Larchmont for his birthday lunch to nibble on a menu that’s rapidly becoming one of the hautest spots around for Tinseltown’s A-list.
He started the second day of his “spiritual and physical cleanse” with the “I Am Awesome” sandwich of herb-cornmeal crusted eggplant parmesan on grilled panini bread with marinara sauce, cashew ricotta, tomatoes, Brazil nut parmesan, arugula and basil with a side of rice and beans.
Beyonce, meanwhile, started with the “I Am Divine” juice — apple, beet, lemon, and ginger — and the “I Am Pure” — marinated kale salad with sesame-wasabi and garlic-tahini dressing, avocado, sea palm, nori, cucumbers, carrots, cilantro, basil and green onions topped with teriyaki almonds.
She then shared the “I Am Inspired” sandwich — barbecue 3-grain tempeh sandwich with creamy coleslaw, tomato and spicy whole grain mustard on ciabatta bread — and the “I Am Magical” — Homemade veggie burger on a whole wheat bun with lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion, mustard sauce, and spicy chipotle ketchup — with a friend.
Cafe Gratitude does business through a practice they refer to a “Sacred Commerce”, and view their restaurants as environments to serve healthy food and act as training grounds to practice seeing their lives from a perspective of gratitude.
Jay-Z couldn’t have found a more perfect spot for his spiritual journey if he’d tried.
