This is a new world, and the idea of “juicing” is no longer synonymous with a chore. Our top five picks for the best juice spots in Los Angeles and the O.C. are fun, fresh and delicious. Whole food may never taste as good again.

1 Pressed

When you sip a Pressed juice -- particularly the Coconut Mint Chip (coconut meat, coconut h2o, cacao and mint) or the Spiced Almond (blood-sugar-stabilizing cinnamon, digestion- friendly cardamom, and brain-stimulating nutmeg) -- you might feel like you're drinking a milkshake. But guess what? These juices, as great as they taste, are pure health. No sweeteners are used, not even agave, and each juice contains almost 5 lbs. of product. Its three young entrepreneurial founders -- Hayden Slater, Hedi Gores and Carly Brien -- are clearly on to a good thing. Pressed now has 14 locations in California, including new spots in Manhattan Beach and Larchmont Village in LA.

2 Clover

Some people take juicing oh so seriously that it becomes a chore. Not Clover. Not only are the juices here delicious, but they're tongue in cheek, too. The "Menage a Trois," for example, is a cheeky blend of carrot, apple and ginger while the "Rise & Grind" is 16. oz of serious caffeine kick packed with protein: espresso cubes, Stumptown coffee, vanilla protein powder, vanilla almond milk, dark chocolate chips, coconut and agave. As fun as the juices here are, they do their job, too: we swear that the "Gingersnap" of fugi apple, green apple, lemon and ginger made our sick selves well again. No kidding.

3 Nekter

There is something for everyone at Nekter (and not just because new outposts of this rapidly growing company keep on popping up all over Southern California). There are juices, smoothies, acai bowls and more at Steve and Alexis Schulze's boutique juceries. Of all the products that are created locally in Orange County and shipped to the plethora of outposts, we love The Glow for its promise of a rosy flush -- a blend of carrot, parsley, kale, spinach, celery, lemon and ginger and the Chocolate Dream because we can feel good about indulging in our daily fix with the blend of nut milk, cacao, carob, dates, avocado and agave nectar.

4 Kreation

We love the variety at Kreation, and that it offers health "shots" -- sans alcohol, of course. We also like that there are juices that fit our moods on any given day. We may just like promoting something called "sassy", but the hydrating and de-puffing blend of cayenne pepper, lemon and watermelon really does energize and revitalize. We also thought the Rosy Aura just tasted good, but apparently it's also the ultimate "beauty beverage" : it combines rosewater’s celebrated healing properties with the beta-carotene from the cantaloupe.

5 Moon Juice

The libations at Moon Juice are complex, delicious and nutritious. Our favorites include the Golden Milk, a blend of unpasteurized almond milk, cold pressed turmeric juice, cinnamon, cardamon and raw wildflower honey, which has anti-inflammatory, liver cleansing and muscle & bone building properties. We also love the "Date Shake" of dates, almond butter, maca, coffee bean, cardamom and almond milk.
