You might meet your soulmate on a first date, but we doubt it. In order to avoid a potentially painful evening, ambiance is everything. At the very least, it’s a guarantee that you won’t have wasted your evening if your date opts for one of our top 5 haute spots even if magic doesn’t happen. And at best, the venues are a great backdrop for romance. Let the loving begin!

1 Malibu Wines

There's only one thing better than drinking wine under the sun...and that's drinking wine under the stars. Both are offered at Malibu Wines, which makes this a lovely location for either a day or night date. Bring a picnic, sit back, relax and let the conversation -- and Malibu label Semler -- flow.
31740 Mulholland Hwy, Malibu, CA 90265 (818) 865-0605

2 The Spare Room

We think the Spare Room is ace because it offers so many activities. Avoid a stilted conversation by bowling (yes, there are lanes in this upscale cocktail lounge), backgammon, chess, checkers or plethora of handy games. The quality craft cocktails at this Roosevelt Hotel lounge like the Sixth Street Strut - a blend of bourbon, Calisaya, aromatic bitters and Mexican spiced cocoa syrup -- are also guaranteed to spice up your evening.

It's hard not to enjoy a date at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art --- even if your date is a little dry. If your companion fails to seduce you, at least you'll be seduced by sculptures like Levitated Mass or paintings from the likes of David Hockney. If you've paid more attention to the pieces and not enough to your date, you can always stop by the museum's C+M (Cookies + Milk) coffee shop for a little light conversation and a latte.
5905 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036 (323) 857-6000

4 Chateau Marmont

When in date doubt, head to the Chateau Marmont. The Chateau is a legendary spot for misbehaving celebs, and that alone should provide enough fodder for a stumbling introductory conversation. If celebrity-spotting isn't quite enough, we assure you that the dark and sultry interiors and delightful designer cocktails should reassure you that this is a wonderful first date location. We do advise though that you save dinner for a later date and simply enjoy some libations at Bar Marmont instead.
8221 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90046 (323) 656-1010

5 The Hollywood Bowl

We feel a little naughty for putting the Hollywood Bowl on our list when its season is clearly over, but we couldn't help ourselves. The Hollywood Bowl is a wonderful spot to take in the best musical offerings LA has to offer under a starry sky, though, quite problematically, it's only open during the summer months. The 2014 season starts with a fireworks display on June 21, so start making your plans NOW.
