The BAFTA LA Jaguar Britannia Awards

Awards season was well underway over the weekend as BAFTA Los Angeles and BBC America presented its 2013 Jaguar Brittania Awards.

Honorees at the Beverly Hilton-held ceremony included George Clooney, Kathryn Bigelow, Sir Ben Kingsley, Benedict Cumberbatch, Sacha Baron Cohen and Idris Elba.

Baron Cohen received the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy from Salma Hayek and director Judd Apatow, who referred to the actor as “our Jimi Hendrix…a mensch and a great friend.”

Cumberbatch accepted his Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year from Chiwetel Ejiofor and Alice Eve, who worked with Cumberbatch in “Star Trek: Into Darkness.” Elba received the Britannia Humanitarian Award for his work in England for the Prince’s Trust; he received his honor from Sean Penn and Nelson Mandela’s daughter, Zindzi Mandela.

Bigelow was the recipient of the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing, while Kinglsey won the Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Entertainment.

Julia Roberts presented Clooney with the final award of the evening, the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film.
