Competition is fierce in midtown Manhattan as developers and architects work to continuously one-up each other in a contest of who can make the tallest, most luxurious building. Today, plans for a new addition to the city’s skyline were recently unveiled. Developer Gary Barnett introduced the 1,550 foot luxury condo tower to be erected at 215 W 57th Street. The building will rival all city skyscrapers, towering over the Empire State Building and 1 World Trade Center minus its 400 foot spire, making it the tallest building in New York City.

The tower was designed by prominent architect, Adrian Smith, designer of the world’s tallest building in Dubai, the 2,717 foot Burj Khalifa. The much anticipated tower will house the city’s first Nordstrom department store. Just one block away, Barnett is already constructing One57, which is expected be NYC’s tallest apartment building at 1,005 feet. Penthouse suites in the apartment building have already sold for more than $90 million.
