I grew up in a house where we had a huge family Thanksgiving dinner every year. All my aunts and cousins would come to my mom’s house, and it would be like a mini Family Reunion every year. But times have changed, over the last couple of years my mom has opted to only do the big family dinners on Christmas and the last couple of years we have went out for Thanksgiving dinner. At first I thought we were breaking the unwritten rule of Turkey Day, “no dine-out food.” But I have quickly realized that this isn’t something new, there are tons of people/families that would rather have a restaurant do all the work for them. For you who fall into this category, allow me to help you out a bit.
I have the perfect place for the dine-out Thanksgiving individuals and families. One restaurant is going all out to give you a great culinary experience. The Chicago Firehouse (1401 South Michigan) will host a Thanksgiving Buffet (Adults $49.99, children 5-12 $19.99) from 11:30 AM to 7PM on Thanksgiving Day (November 28). The unlimited menu from the South Loop restaurant will include breakfast dishes (early), salads, seafood, carving stations, side dishes and desserts. You will find an omelette station until 2PM, all day curated meats and terrines, artisan cheeses and a host of Thanksgiving-related items, it really is quite impressive. And in case you wanted to still eat at home but just don’t want to cook, Chicago Firehouse has you covered there as well.
You can get a complete turkey feast prepared by The Chicago Firehouse to take home to your family. The “Thanksgiving To Go” option features a fully cooked holiday meal that serves six to eight people. The family-style menu includes whole slow-roasted turkey (12 to 14 lbs.) with bourbon and gingersnap gravy; mixed greens with spiced pecans, blue cheese and dried fruit; roasted apple and sage sausage stuffing; garlic mashed potatoes; sweet potatoes with brown sugar and marshmallows; green bean almondine; cranberry orange-almond relish; and whole pumpkin pie. The price for this delicious feast is $195 plus tax, you have to order the meal before noon on Monday, November 25 and you can schedule pick-up on November 27 (4-9PM) or November 28 (9-10:30AM).
