Hervé Léger RTW Spring 2014 at The Theater

This Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Lincoln Center was brimming with bloggers, celebrities and other guests sporting resort wear, plaid, denim and even baseball caps. The overalls and caps that seemed so prominent outside, thankfully, didn’t make it into Hervé Léger’s RTW Spring 2014 show; designers Max Azria and Lubov Azria stayed true to their aesthetic while offering an even edgier twist to their usual looks. Hervé Léger delivered unique distressed knits, leather bodices with zippers and feminine eyelet and godet skirts that flatter the fierce New York woman.

Backstage, Max Azria offered Haute Living the inside scoop (and a few recommendations).

Tell us a little bit about the inspiration for this collection.

“It’s about the strong woman of 2014. This collection shows a lot of color and jacquard…it’s all very new.”

What do you predict will be the most popular spring trend?

“Fashion has become about freedom…women wear a lot of different interesting things. It’s not like in the past where someone was wearing red and everyone wants to wear red! No! Today is different.”

What’s your number one piece of fashion advice for someone wanting to look chic in NYC?

“Wear Hervé Léger!” He said with a wink and a smile.

The most eye-catching designs featured leather corset-like middle sections and ‘armor’ incorporating ruffle details and zippers. While these pieces were more rigid in form, the collection also offered several fluid designs with asymmetrical tassels. Forget being pretty or girly, this show told a story of luxury and power for womankind.

Celebrities like Nicki Minaj, Meghan Markle, Giuliana Rancic, Petra Nemcova and Katie Cassidy were in attendance at the center of a full house and hordes of guests in standing room.

The best part of the whole event? After Max and his wife Lubov waved to the roaring crowd at the end of the show, they stole a celebratory smooch just behind the stage to toast their success. Aww.
