Set, Spike, Dig: Motherlode Volleyball Back in Aspen

Motherlode

One of the country’s largest and most popular volleyball tournaments returns for its 41st year in Aspen over Labor Day weekend. More than 700 teams of doubles hit the sand and grass courts throughout seven different sites and parks in Aspen for several days of big digs and epic saves.

Players range in skill from recreational masters to competitive former Olympic athletes. The tourney, running Aug. 28 through Sept. 2, tests all of these skill on high-altitude courts, and it culminates with the men’s open championship on Monday afternoon. It’s free to take in any of the games, and there is food, drinks and music on-site.
