Haute Watch of the Week: Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph Pink Gold

It is rare to see an all-gold watch these days. The spectacle of the moment, even in men’s watches, is full-on diamonds. While the all-gold timepiece had come to be considered too flashy when rendered in yellow gold, it seems downright dignified when done in pink gold (especially compared to the glare of diamonds). And especially if the watch is an iconic sports watch like the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph.

The signature grande tapisserie dial looks good in black when contrasted with the pink gold case and integrated bracelet. And at 41mm, it is “jumbo” sized. Even the rotor is 18k gold. The satin-brushed finishes cut down on the flash factor, though, and the iconic eight screws are in white gold, giving this watch an element of subtlety.

The Royal Oak Chronograph in pink gold contains the self-winding caliber 2385, with a 40-hour power reserve and a frequency of 21,600 vibrations/hour (3 Hz). It has a smalls seconds dial and a date window in addition to chronograph totalizers. It is water resistant to 50 meters.
