Popular New York-based retail center for Italian delicacies and wine, Eataly, is reportedly heading to the Los Angeles area, and though no official confirmation has been made, it is now being reported that the self-described “original marketplace” may soon be opening its doors at Macy’s Plaza in LA.

Previously thought to be opening at the Los Angeles Beverly Center, reports are now surfacing indicating that Eataly’s Mario Batali and Joe Bastianinch are in “serious discussions” to open at Macy’s Plaza, which will eventually be turned into “The Bloc after a $160-million remodel by developer The Ratkovich Company,” according to Brighamyen.com.

Bastianich confirmed in 2011 that Eataly is scheduled to open in Los Angeles, but so far no further comment has been made about where or when. According to Brigham Yen, The Bloc will be “essentially opened up to the outside” so portions of the ground level, where Eataly is rumored to take over, would “spill out into the future outdoor courtyard.”

Eataly’s concept includes a marketplace-type setting that invites consumers to be “active participants in an innovative food and beverage experience where they shop, taste and savor high quality traditional Italian food products and beverages along with local produce and artisanal products,” according to their website. The brand is essentially a “multifunctional marketplace” offering various food-related departments, such as a retail center for Italian delicacies and wine, a culinary educational center, and a diverse slate of seven boutique eateries.

There are currently seven restaurants inside Eataly in New York City, six of which are located on the street level marketplace, and the seventh is located on the location’s rooftop.
