7 AM: I start every day with meditation. Most mornings I meditate with my beautiful daughters, Ming Lee and Aoki Lee Simmons. I bought a house close to theirs so that I can see them every day! After meditation and fresh green juices, the girls and I jump into my MINI and head off to their school.
9:30 AM: After a quick cardio session on the elliptical, I’m off to work. I’ve been spending a lot of time on my new company, DEF Pictures, and my All Def Digital (A.D.D.) YouTube channel. I talk to my partner, Tricia Clarke-Stone, every day about the work we’re doing with our new New York-based digital solutions company, Narrative. I’m busy, but having a lot of fun building the companies. It’s all in the work, never the reward.
12:30 PM: My longtime assistant, Simone, and I grab a vegan lunch. I love all the new options I have near my office.
1:30 PM: I’m on a call with my team at Rush Philanthropic in New York getting an update on ART FO R LIFE East Hampton, my annual fundraiser out in the Hamptons. Rush Philanthropic provides inner city youth across NYC with significant exposure to the arts and offers exhibition opportunities to emerging artists of color. ART FO R LIFE is the best summer party! We’ve had great support from the art community from contributors like Renee Cox, Shepard Fairey and Kehinde Wiley and have honored everyone from Alicia Keys to Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon. We have some amazing surprises lined up this year. The event will take place on Saturday, July 27th. Be sure to get your tickets early!
2:30 PM: Conference call with RushCard to discuss the prepaid card rollout at retailers like Rite Aid.
4 PM: Yoga. No matter how busy my day is, I always schedule time to settle my mind and be still. Yoga helps me do that. You have to have the clarity to be present. When we’re in the present, we access our creativity.
6:30 PM: Soho House for a private screening.
10 PM: After the screening and dinner, I’m home and preparing for the next day.
