Feeling stressed? Indulge in one of Luxury Attaché’s Top 5 Hotel Spas, and discover your true urban oasis.

1 Shibui Spa

This dim, zen-like oasis is located in the basement of Robert DeNiro’s hotel, The Greenwich in Tribeca and is perhaps one of the best kept secret sanctuaries in the city. Open exclusively to hotel guests until just this past year, Shibui’s Eastern-inspired subterranean den boasts an impressive, lantern-lit pool housed within the 250 year old remnants of a wooden and bamboo Kyoto Farmhouse. With a philosophy that speaks to a luxurious, yet uncomplicated experience, guests are met with an aesthetic of grounded stillness; Japanese linen robes replace run of the mill terrycloth, and sleek treatment rooms--four to be exact--are each uniquely purposed. Shibui offers one room solely for Shiatsu, one to practice the traditional Japanese bathing ritual, a wet room for wraps and body scrubs and the last for traditional massages and facials. Treatment options are traditional yet contemporary and tend to trend Japanese, like their signature Drunken Lotus massage that utilizes sake-soaked towels to ease sore muscles. Perfect for canceling out the noise from the city streets above, Shibui’s quiet grace tops our list.

2 Caudalie Vinotherapie Spa

This luxurious 8,000-square-foot retreat immediately comes to mind when thinking of top hotel spa in the city, perhaps because it’s so incredibly transportive. Deep greens and lush burgundies reticent of a Bordeaux Winery (this is, after all, the only stateside outpost of France’s Les Sources de Caudalie) provide an unrivaled and serene ambience for the ultimate escape. Guests can enjoy sips and snacks in the French Paradox Wine Lounge while awaiting specialty treatments that utilize anti-oxidant rich polyphenols, found exclusively in grape seeds and skins, known to harness more than ten times the free-radical fighting power of traditional Vitamin E. For the ultimate VIP treatment, look no further than the unique Red Wine Bath in one of their cherrywood “barrel” tubs, followed by a heavenly Wine Maker’s Massage and a reserved table for two in the lounge to enjoy fine French vino and decadent foie gras.

3 The Spa

This bi-level stunner not only boasts stellar treatment options, but provides unparalleled views of Central Park, the Hudson River and the iconic Manhattan skyline. The muted yet calming decor, with slate gray tiles, pale woods, scant pieces of Asian art and fresh orchids, is understated elegance at its finest. Guests begin their sky-high spa ritual in the relaxing Tea Room before heading into one of seven rooms (well, seven plus one uber luxurious VIP suite) for incredibly unique treatment options like the Time Ritual in which guests reserve blocks of time instead of a specific treatment beforehand to create a fully customizable experience. Relaxed yet? Take a dip in the body-pummeling Vitality Pool or sweat cares away in the impressive aromatherapy steam room.

4 The Peninsula Spa

Following a complete renovation and upgrade in 2009, this perennial, Forbes Five Star-rated spa was a no-brainer to include; it also just so happens to take the cake for offering the most deluxe, luxurious way to cap off one of their personalized spa services: a post-treatment relaxation (or dare we say, snooze) chamber complete with body hugging beds, headsets, individual lighting settings and top of the line plush comforters. With elaborate curving staircases, ten plush treatment rooms including a VIP suite, Asian tea room, hair salon, access to a glass-encased swimming pool and state of the art fitness center, as well as a brand new Nail Suite, this spacious 35,000-square-foot retreat is not one to be missed.

5 Guerlain Spa

Look no further than the opulent Waldorf Astoria to find luxury in its finest hour. Now, keep the superior service and class but replace the ornate pomp with chic, clean lines and elegant white and beige tonalities and voila, the Guerlain Spa on the hotel’s 19th floor is born. Guests are presented immediately with a pair of slippers and a choice of bespoke scents to personalize one of sixteen spacious treatment suites. In the spa’s only high-tech inclusion (they pride themselves on a classic, old-World approach), heated foot baths rise from the floor on hydraulic lifts and begin the pampering before the particular treatment to follow is even selected. Signature services heighten the appeal even more and include favorites like the Intensive Body Therapy option, an invigorating two hour wrap and scrub combination and the Exceptional Orchidee Imperiale facial.
