James Beard Award-winning Chef Michael Schwartz recently opened Restaurant Michael Schwartz at the iconic Raleigh Hotel. The hotel was acquired in December by sbe’s David Edelstein and Sam Nazarian and is expected to undergo more improvements. The opening of the chef’s restaurant at the Raleigh marks the first of two planned Michael Schwartz restaurants at sbe hotels.
The restaurant is situated inside the deco hotel and in the property’s famous garden. The menu consists of fresh, American cuisine made from top-quality, often locally sourced ingredients. Some of Michael’s signature dishes make an appearance as well as items that will channel their ocean front location like the Grilled Octopus with crushed hazelnuts. The menu style is recognizable to fans of Michael’s Genuine Food and Drink with amazing desserts by Hedy Goldsmith and items falling under categories such as Snacks, Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large plates. He has even created a box lunch for poolside dining and revamped the martini menu at the hotel’s historic Martini Bar.
“Creating Restaurant Michael Schwartz with sbe and getting to know a property as legendary as The Raleigh has been an incredible experience,” said Chef Schwartz. “Together we’ve developed a menu truly fitting of its iconic namesake and locale with a variety of dishes that put local ingredients and flavor first.”
In addition to creative new cuisine, Restaurant Michael Schwartz has introduced some new ways to dine, like the ‘Family Dinner’ on Mondays, which is a $50 four-course prix fixe served family style at a communal table at 8pm.
