From cozy restaurants to authentic Thai to date-worthy locales, we’ve scoured the best in San Francisco and come up with the most happening hotspots for night owls to nosh in the Golden Gate City.

1 Nopa

The ultimate go-to option for late-night organic cuisine, Nopa serves up urban rustic food, specializing in organic wood-fired grub. They strive to incorporate seasonal ingredients sourced from local purveyors. Their philosophy: Simple is better. Most of Nopa's dishes are recognizable, with small, gracious twists and innovations. Calamari ($9) are braised in a golden-bronze saffron broth along with quartered new potatoes and a scattering of fried chickpeas. And flatbread ($14) resembles a little square pizza, topped perhaps with slivers of red onion, white cheese, and prosciutto. If you’re craving a killer desert late (they’re open for dinner until 1 a.m.), you simply must try their delicious pound cake with orange custard ice cream float and candied kumquats. It’s divine!

2 Globe

Small, dark and intimate, Globe is the ultimate homey destination for those serious about food and not looking to break the bank. Some of our favorites include the salmon on pasta with watercress ($19) and Parmesan risotto ($6). Their handwritten menu is filled with flavorful treats and is updated frequently. Open until 1 a.m., this spot is a far cry from the food normally available at that time. As you might expect, this smaller restaurant has quite a following so you’ll need to make reservations.

3 Osha Thai at Mission

This isn’t your ordinary Thai joint. Open until 12 a.m, Osha Thai serves authentic, traditional Thai using fresh incredients. A perfect date location, the sleek, clean, tropical and modern Osha Thai attracts the city’s most hip and pretty crowd. On any given night, you can be sure that Mission hipsters and young urban bohos are chowing down here. Always evolving their menu, they offer a much needed escape from “carbon copy” Thai restaurants. Not to mention, their presentation is Iron Chef worthy and the wine menu is out of this world.

4 Bouchon in Yountville

Got a craving for French cuisine? You’re in luck. Bouchon in Yountville serves up comforting and fresh French bistro food until 12:30 a.m. daily. A casual atmosphere with awesome bar, this lively joint serves up the most delicious French fare that leaves you wanting to lick the plate. Our favorites include the gnocchi a la parisienne, which includes sautéed gnocchi with a ragout of summer veggies, buerre noisette and sage. Oh la la!

5 The Brazen Head

Coined “a place worth finding,” this marina hideaway, known for its intimate atmosphere, is a favorite among locals and visitors alike. Serving up all-American cuisine, including the signature Certified Angus Beef New York pepper steak since 1980, this lively bar is a great place to both eat and drink. They serve dinner until 1 a.m. and the bar is open until 2 a.m.
