Miami Art Museum to Host “Lights Out Closing Party” Before Transition to Pérez Art Museum Miami

MAM

On June 1, the Miami Art Museum (MAM) will host “Lights Out Closing Party,” the last public event to be held on its grounds before transitioning to Pérez Art Museum Miami.

After more than 15 years, MAM will shut its doors at Miami-Dade Cultural Center and move to its new expanded facility at Museum Park. To bid farewell in style, the museum will be hosting a full-blown community BBQ hosted on Cultural Center Plaza on June 1 from 7-10 p.m.

The evening will include snacks by Sparky’s Roadside BBQ, art, exhibits and music from a HOT 97.7 fm DJ. Throughout the evening, guests can enjoy a viewing of the nomadic artist project the end in conjunction with New Work Miami 2013 and Frames of References: Latin American Art from the Jorge M. Perez Collection.

The event is free for members and costs $10 for non-members.

The Cultural Center Plaza at Miami Art Museum is located at 101 W. Flagler St. There will be free parking available at 50 NW 2nd Ave.

MAM, which is dedicated to collecting and exhibiting international art of the 20th and 21st centuries with an emphasis on the cultures of America, Europe and Africa, will reopen as Pérez Art Museum, designed by Herzog & de Meuron, in downtown Miami’s Museum Park in December 2013.
