Seafood in Chicago can be tricky because there’s so many steak restaurants that can trick you into thinking their seafood is just as good, most of the time they are not. The five seafood restaurants on this list are the cream of the crop and have some of the best seafood you will ever find.

1 Shaws Crab House

This is one of those rare times where my bias and reality seem to fall in line because honestly Shaw’s Crab House is my absolute favorite seafood restaurant in the world, no exaggeration. It’s perfect in the sense because the general consensus is that Shaw’s is at or near the top of everyone’s list of great seafood restaurants. From the sushi rolls to the crab cakes to the lobster, the food is delicious and will have you wanting to go back as much as possible. Make sure you save room for dessert though, the Key Lime Pie is outstanding.

2 Joe's Seafood

This legendary seafood spot has had people flocking to it for nearly a century in Miami Beach, and now we are able to delight in the delectable dishes here in Chicago as Lettuce Entertain You has partnered with the original to create Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak and Stone Crab. It’s almost a must that you try their famous Florida Stone Crab Claws and equally famous Key Lime Pie. The seafood is ridiculously fresh and the atmosphere is nothing short of timeless.

3 Catch 35

Catch 35 is definitely one of the classiest places you will dine, it kind of takes you back when you walk in with a piano next to the bar and a certain yesteryear vibe. The place is so nice that I decided it would be the perfect place for me to try my first oyster (full disclosure I put it in my mouth and couldn’t go through with it, it’s a bridge I will have to cross another day). But if you’re not a oyster person like me then you’re in luck because the menu is so deep and full of delicious choices that there’s no way you can leave there with an unsatisfied appetite.

4 Hugo's Frog Bar and Fish House

Hugo’s is owned by Gibson’s Restaurant Group and since 1997 has been serving up some of the finest seafood in Chicago. They put the same level of care into every seafood dish as Gibson does their steaks, and they take it serious. The menu is exceptional to put it mildly, everything looks good and if you are a real fan of seafood, you will have a big decision to make and it’s going to be hard to choose. Or you could be just like me and get crab cakes and crab legs.

5 L2O

Chef Matthew Kirkley exlores the “intricacies of fish and shellfish in artful compositions enhanced by the best ingredients available from land and sea.” That’s directly from their site and a perfect explanation of what’s happening at this incredible restaurant. It may be a bit pricey but worth every penny, regardless of income you must try L2O at least once.
