Over the last few weeks there has been a lot of breakfast-related top five lists and being that it’s my favorite meal, you won’t hear me complaining. I consider myself a true pancake aficionado, and these are five of the best pancake places in the city. Four of the five restaurants on the list were on the breakfast list, proving that there is a direct positive correlation between great pancakes and great restaurants.

1 The Original Pancake House

As I said on a prior list, this is not technically a local restaurant, I know they have over 100 franchises across the US, but it is literally my favorite breakfast place in the world. The pancakes are amazing, I have been going here for as long as I remember. It’s not just all nostalgia though, I guarantee you would be hard-pressed to find a better pancake. I’m seriously saying this may be the best pancake ever.

2 Honey Jam Cafe

Honey Jam is right outside of Chicago and is owned by the same company as the beloved Portillo’s. The gourmet pancakes are great, but their regular pancakes are ridiculously addictive, skip the short stack and indulge in a large order. Don’t forget to get a side of the cherrywood-smoked bacon.

3 Yolk.

Yolk is making its third top 5 appearance in the last four weeks and it’s for good reason. It is one of the best all around breakfast places you will find, but the pancakes in particular are great. They have pancakes for multiple tastes as well, including chocolate-strawberry cakes, fruit and nut pancakes and their award winning potato pancakes.

4 The Bongo Room

The Bongo Room has been delighting their customer’s stomachs since opening in 1993. They do pancakes in a unique way, like the sweet side of the menu that includes pumpkin carrot cake flapjacks and cannoli hotcakes. Their pancakes can change with the seasons, so you’re always in for something special.

5 Prasino

Wicker Park has a real gem in Prasino. The pancakes here are incredible and if there is such a thing as healthy pancakes, they’re at Prasino. You can have your choice of batter at Prasino, whether you want buttermilk, multigrain, vegan or gluten free, they have all the pancake bases covered. Feeling like something different, try there berry-liscious cakes with fresh seasonal berries and raspberry coulis.
