Entering into Rami Jabali’s new hair and beauty salon is an unexpectedly breathtaking experience. One leaves the busy street of Jumeirah Beach Residence and arrives into a white space of high ceilings, jagged square-cut windows, interesting glass chandeliers and lots of bright lights. The feeling is almost akin to what one would imagine stepping into a scifi spaceship vessel would be like, except for the fact that there are hair styling tools, client chairs and sinks instead of serious-looking computer screens and gadgets. The light, spacious and uber-modern decor causes one to immediately relax – a feeling which is further heightened by Rami himself, who can always be seen graciously greeting clients.
Since relocating to Dubai in 2006 Rami has developed an impressive roster of clients including numerous royal weddings, the Dubai International Film Festival and Dubai Fashion Week. While his work experience has spanned many countries and top brands, what Rami is greatly interested in is providing clients with healthy hair which lasts. We caught up with Rami to learn the ins and outs of his new place and just exactly how he leaves each client with such healthy glossy locks.
What is your philosophy in regards to keeping hair healthy even when it has been extensively colored and overworked?
We aim to use as few chemically-based products on the hair as possible. Instead we opt for hair color technology as well as products for all-around healthy hair such as Redken, L’Oreal and Wella. We’re also dedicated to educating our clients on how to best treat your hair. Today, it is not just about getting your hair colored to look good, but to color it in a healthy way so that the results last.
What inspired you to open your new salon?
The beauty market in Dubai is still small and underdeveloped. It has always been a struggle for women in Dubai to find a good hairdresser or color specialist – especially when it comes to blonds, highlights and short hair cuts. I wanted to offer the market something different and beneficial within an elegant and cutting-edge ambiance as well as a part of town which provides easy access.
How did you select such a stunning location?
I always had the dream of opening a great hair salon in Dubai; it’s been a goal I’ve been working at for a long time. I wanted to create a concept which goes beyond just hair and also provides spa and beauty treatments. Clients come in for a haircut and then have the possibility of venturing to the second level for a range of beauty treatments including manicures, pedicures and massages. I want the salon to be an ideal place for beauty and one where one comes not just to look beautiful, but also because the ambiance is pleasing and relaxing.
Lastly, what made you decide to become a hairdresser?
My mother is also a hairdresser and she has been a crucial inspiration in my development as a stylist. I always wanted to help people. Even contributing in a small way to another person’s health and wellbeing makes me happy. Hairstyling has been my way to help and make people feel good.
