Joe Montana’s Distillery Expands Reach
House Spirits Distillery, the Portland-based distillery co-owned by San Francisco 49er great Joe Montana and business partner Thomas Mooney, is going national. A new distribution agreement with Southern Wine & Spirits will dispatch Distillery’s flagship brand Aviation American Gin to markets across the country. Established by Christian Krogstad, House Spirits is one of Portland’s most famous craft distillers. The deal will introduce the brand into 35 states. “House Spirits is one of the leaders of the craft distilling revolution, and we’re proud to welcome them into the Southern portfolio of leading brands,” said Rudy Ruiz, Southern’s executive vice president for House Spirits. “Aviation American Gin has already developed a passionate following, and it has demonstrated the potential to grow into a strong national brand. We look forward to the opportunity to work with House Spirits Distillery to steward the growth of this promising brand.”

George Lucas Makes Forbes’ Billionaires List
Forbes Magazine has included iconic filmmaker George Lucas on their list of the world’s richest individuals. The Marin County resident was ranked number 346 on the list of the “Richest People on the Planet”, with an estimated net worth of US$3.9 billion. In 2012, the filmmaker sold Lucasfilm, the company behind the Star Wars franchise, to Disney for $4 billion.
British Telcom Hires Google Executive Omid Kordestani
Vodafone, the multinational telecommunications company headquartered in London, England, has appointed one of Google’s founding employees as their new non-executive director. Kordestani, who was Google’s 11th employee, is credited with growing the tech giant from a startup to a company with $20 billion revenues and 12,000 employees. Kordestani left his position as Google’s senior vice president of worldwide sales and field operations in 2009 to become a senior advisor to the office of CEO/Founders at Google. He joins Vodafone at a time when the tel-com industry is coping with the challenges of working with and often competing against companies such as Google.
Mark Zuckerberg , Anne Wojcicki Announce Million Dollar Prizes for Curing Diseases
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has joined Anne Wojcicki (the co-founder of 23andMe and wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin) as part of an elite group of luminaries backing the Life Sciences Breakthrough Prize. The new competition will reward biology researchers working to cure intractable diseases and extend human life. Tech and investment leaders like Art Levinson (chairman of both Apple and Genentech) and Yuri Milner were on hand to help announce the competition’s $33 million in cash prizes. Zuckerberg said he hopes that the tech industry can help fund the work of scientists and researchers tackling such complicated problems. “A lot of this is about the next generation of folks, college students and grad students in labs,” says Zuckerberg. “Hopefully we can create something that will make them want to (take chances and find cures). I hope what we’ve done can serve as that platform. And others will create other prizes to serve other philanthropic efforts.” Wojcicki added, “I hope this inspires people. It’s incredibly important, the work that you’re doing….here’s to the superheroes.”
