Mex in Miami isn’t as easy as other Latin American cuisines, but if you look hard enough, there are some excellent finds. Here are some of the best bets for top-of-the-line tacos and more.
Talavera takes Mexican cuisine up a notch with dishes you might find in a gourmet restaurant in Mexico city. Their signature dish is a lightly toasted huarache, layered with black-bean puree, lettuce, salsa verde and goat cheese. The dish is served with a choice of chili-rubbed grilled fish, shrimp, tuna, salmon, chicken or beef.
2 Rosa Mexicano
The beloved NY restaurant, known for their table-side guacamole, has two Miami outposts. With chic Mexican-inspired decor and a high-quality ingredients, this isn't your usual taco and margarita joint. Look instead for frozen pomegranate margaritas and handcrafted artisanal tacos with vegetable escabeche.
3 Cantina Beach
The Ritz Carlton on Key Biscayne has a beautiful open-air, beach side Mexican cantina. Heriberto Ovideo, their on-staff Tequiler who was trained in Mexico, offers recommendations on the restaurant's 85 premium tequila selection, the largest 100 percent Agave tequila collection in Miami.
4 The MexZican Gourmet
This South Miami favorite is a great spot for serious Mex done right. Dishes like Cochinita Pibil, which is Yucatan-style pork with achiote, orange and Mexican herbs and Chamorro: pork shank and chile pasilla with roasted tomato sauce, make this hidden gem very popular.
