Fashion. Fashion. Fashion. How exciting is it that I get to talk about fashion two days in a row? Feels good. I’m happy to say that the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) has announced their 79th annual fashion show, Fashion 2013. The fashion show will be on Millennium Park’s Chase Promenade and will be presented three times on Friday, May 3, 2013. The day will culminate with THE WALK, the school’s annual benefit supporting the production of student work and scholarships. THE WALK will begin at 5:30 in the evening. There are two big awards handed out at the event, the first is the Heart of Fashion Award, which will be given to the Melissa Sage Sadim. The second award is the Legend of Fashion Award and that will be given to fashion designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte.

“This magnificent show is a fitting platform for the marvelous, innovative work of our students. I am inspired by the creations that they continue to produce each year,” says SAIC President Walter E. Massey. “This year, it is a special privilege to honor both Kate and Laura who, like many of these students, began their creative explorations at such a young age, as well as a true friend to SAIC and the Fashion Design department, Melissa Sage Fadim, whose passion and commitment to this institution makes events like this possible, including the annual fashion show.”

Fashion 2013 will feature more than 50 models from Factor Runway modeling over 300 original garments designed by students from SAIC’s renowned undergraduate Fashion Design program. It’s going to be a huge production with a 90-foot runway inside a 15,000-square-foot tent on the Chase Promenade. With Ulta doing hair and Maybelline NY doing make-up, event producer Conrad Hamather is sure to make this a first-class affair. The tickets for Fashion 2013 cost $40-$75 and can be purchased online only at www.saicfashion.org until the day of the event, though there will be tickets available at the door on May 3rd.
