San Francisco is known as one of the most sartorially stylish cities…for men.  Dior Homme and the upcoming Saint Laurent store will be mens is an testament to that fact.  For those style saavy men or those interested in picking up their game, Matthew Singer, the men’s fashion director of Neiman Marcus will be at Neiman Marcus Walnut Creek Thursday, March 21 from 1pm to 3pm to discuss spring 2013 trend and help direct some of those more timid about venturing into the realm of the soft loafer and the summer suit.  If this father and husband can be so dashing while traveling about the world, you can to!

Haute Living San Francisco was lucky enough to get a sneak peak into the mind of Matthew with an interview.

HL:  Since you travel so much, what are a few must have travel/beauty/accessory pieces you recommend for spring?
MS:  Im not sure there is enough room on the page to list everything but I’ll name a few.  I never leave home without a navy sport jacket. It is extremely versatile and appropriate for most occasions.  My go to product line is Jack Black, they have almost everything I need.  Starting with the amazing Eye Rescue cream, Spring time or anytime! Never in a million years would I think to use a product like this or tell anyone, but let me tell you… It’s amazing!! Another favorite is the Hand Healer. Going from warm to cool climates and lugging around my luggage can dry my hands pretty fast.  It’s like magic moisturizer for your hands. I think the best accessory for Spring would be the pocket square.  I travel with about 5 or 6, they don’t take up much space and can make your navy jacket look a little different every time

HL:  For guys who are pretty set in their kind of style, what’s a great simple piece to get this spring to be on trend?
MS:  The Summer Loafer! We have a great selection in our stores this season and a great option for your feet.  Gucci is celebrating there 60th Anniversary of the iconic bit loafer.  I have my eyes on a soft tan suede pair.  For the more daring throw a pop of color into the mix!

HL:  What colors have you seen being really pronounced for menswear this spring?
MS:  BRIGHTS!!! Now, more than in previous seasons guys are embracing color.  Experiment with a colorful pant, jean or even a sporty outerwear piece.  If that’s a bit aggressive pump up the volume with your neckwear or pocket squares. Its a great way to be on trend without being the trend.

HL:  Also we have section called Haute Time, where we focus on what kind of watches the taste makers of the zeitgeist are wearing now.  What are you wearing right now?  Why / What does it mean to you?
MS:  I love watches! At the moment I am wearing the watch I received from my folks after graduating college.  It is a Chopard Mile Miglia, Stainless with a croc band.  On the weekends in the Spring I change it out to my IWC GST Rattrapante, it’s a little more sporty. They don’t make this model anymore, so its pretty special to me.matthewsingerchopard
